In the Bear Cubs classroom we use play dough at least once a week. Buying the actual brand Play-Doh is not in my budget and so I have collected a few of my favorite play dough recipes. All of the items are either in your kitchen or your bathroom. I have found that by adding new scents, colors, and textures keeps the idea of bringing out play dough always new and exciting.
Recipe 1
2 Cups All Purpose Flour
2 Tablespoons Vegetable Oil
½ Cup Salt
2 Tablespoons Cream of Tartar
1 ½ Cups of Water
Food Coloring (Optional)
Recipe 2
2 Cups All Purpose Flour
1 Cup Salt
1/2 Cup Cocoa Powder
2 Tablespoons Vegetable Oil
2 Tablespoons Cream of Tartar
2 Cups Water
Recipe 3
2 Cups Cornstarch
1 Cup Hair Conditioner
Food Coloring (Optional)
Method
Combine all of the dry ingredients in a bowl, stir in the wet ingredients, knead it on a clean surface until it loses all stickiness and becomes smooth and stretchy. No residue should come off on your fingers. If it is still sticky add a little more flour, if too dry and crumbly add more water, a tablespoon at a time.
